Collection: Rainforest Jasper (Green Rhyolite)

Rainforest Jasper, also known as Green Rhyolite, is a beautiful stone made of all the earthy colours of a rainforest. It is deeply connected to the Earth and encourages us to strengthen our bond with Mother Earth and all of her inhabitants, reminding us that we are all connected, we are one energy. It opens our awareness to the beauty that constantly surrounds us and inspires us to live in the moment with joy.

Rainforest Jasper promotes respect in all forms, from respecting ourselves, the land we walk upon and all the beings who come into our life. It helps in balancing our emotions and renews our energy, encouraging us to grow. It promotes inner strength and resilience, prompting us to stand tall whilst encouraging us to always hold onto hope. It has a peaceful energy that inspires us to have a more heart centred love for the universe and our self.

With such a strong connection to Earth, it is a good stone to work with when opening up to the spirits of the Earth.

History

Rainforest Jasper is only found at Mt Hay in central Queensland. It was first mined in the late 1960's and has since become popular with collectors and for making beads, ornaments and cabochons with. It was referred to as Rainforest Jasper because the mixture of green, red, yellow, brown, and orange colours reminds people of a rainforest canopy.

Geology

Rainforest Jasper formed from a volcanic eruption from the extinct Mount Hay volcano in Queensland Australia about 120 million years ago. Although it is called Rainforest Jasper, it is in fact a Rhyolite. Rhyolite is rich in silica so it is common to see quartz inclusions. Nepholite and Feldspar may also be present. Rainforest Jasper is only found in Australia and has a hardness of 6.5-7 on Mohs scale.
